Three Rivers Stadium was a multi-purpose stadium in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, that housed both the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Pittsburgh Steelers from 1970–2000. The stadium was built where the Allegheny and Monongahela Rivers meet to form the Ohio River, hence its name. Construction began in 1968 and was completed in 1970 at a cost of $55 million, which is equivalent to $439 million today. The stadium had a seating capacity of 47,972 for baseball and 59,000 for football. The stadium was demolished in 2001 to make room for a new venue.
